Methodology
How the data is built, allocated, normalized and modeled.
How the numbers are made.
Allocation
State production is reported by lease in Texas and by well in New Mexico. Tessera allocates lease volumes to individual wellbores using well tests, completion dates and status, so every analysis runs on per-well monthly oil, gas and water.
Well geometry
Lateral surveys place the lateral where it was drilled, where filings exist. Elsewhere a heel-to-toe schematic is built from reported bottom-hole locations. Lateral length, azimuth, TVD and landing point are derived from the surveyed lateral, not the header.
Landing zones
Reported formations are inconsistent across operators and states. Tessera resolves each landing point against interpreted stratigraphic surfaces to assign one standardized zone vocabulary.
Normalization
Performance is compared per lateral foot and time-aligned to first production. Peak detection, partial-month handling and restart detection for refracs are applied before any comparison.
Spacing and drainage
Every well is measured against every neighbor in the same and adjacent zones: lateral distance, vertical offset, timing, Voronoi drainage and encroachment. Parent-child relationships are classified from those measurements.
Decline curves
Arps hyperbolic fits on post-peak months with a bounded b grid, switching to exponential at a terminal decline, re-anchored to recent production. Wells with insufficient history borrow zone-level parameters at their own age.
Predictive models
Gradient boosted, linear and random forest models trained on rock, geometry, completion and spacing attributes, with monotonic constraints where physics requires them. Every prediction is traceable to the wells it learned from, and the model-versus-DCA spread is reported per well.
Inventory
Remaining inventory is computed at the section and bench level from developed laterals, spacing assumptions and zone extents. The result depends on the density decision, and that sensitivity is shown rather than hidden.
Economics
Monthly cash flow from gross volumes with shrink, NGL yield, working and net revenue interest, state production taxes by API prefix, fixed and variable LOE, water disposal, economic limit and P&A, discounted mid-month across a ladder of rates.
Honesty
Estimates are flagged as estimates. Missing data is never silently imputed. Tessera Quest reports aggregates only and cannot output raw well rows.
